Tui Na Therapy
Originating in China, Tui Na is the oldest known system of massage therapy. In 2300 B.C. it was recorded in the Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Internal Medicine as one of the five major therapies of the time. Tui Na has remained an organized and developed system of massage withstanding the test of time alongside herbal medicine, acupuncture and moxibustion.
Tui Na uses the Traditional Chinese Medical theory of channels (energetic pathways or meridians) and the flow of the Qi energy as its basic therapeutic orientation. Through the application of massage and manipulation techniques, Tui Na seeks to establish a more harmonious Qi energy through the system of channels allowing the body to naturally heal itself.
What is the technique?
The hands and arm are used to massage the soft tissue (muscles and tendons) of the body and stimulate acupressure points to directly affect the flow of Qi energy through the system of channels.
There are different systems that emphasize particular aspects of these therapeutic principles. Us here at Park Acupuncture utilize the rolling method that places an emphasis on soft tissue techniques and specializes in joint injuries and muscle sprains.
What is it used for?
- Release of tension and stress
Tui Na is usually performed over the clothes. We suggest you wear a loose fitting t-shirt, shorts or sweat pants/cotton style pants. A change of clothes is also welcomed.
